When Anita and I first started looking at rings, like anyone else, we wanted the highest quality diamonds in the best setting for the lowest price.  The idea of custom designing a ring to the exact style and look we wanted had a lot of appeal, but even going through some friends at the Diamond Exchange in New York City it was still quite expensive.   In addition, we learned that the highest quality rings are usually precision or machine set.  Even the best hand setting can leave rough edges when the metal is rolled over to set the diamonds.
